Nora, Siku and Berit—Wisconsin’s only polar bears—are getting a bird-friendly home at the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison in time for peak fall bird migration. From 12 to 4 p.m., zoo visitors can enjoy interactive displays and educational activities on preventing bird-window collisions at home from SOS Save Our Songbirds, Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance, and Lights Out Wisconsin. All activities near the polar bear enclosure.
Starting at 1:30 p.m. — weather dependent — zoo staff and volunteers will install over 450 square feet of window treatments to the polar bear enclosure. The treatments, which leave behind a grid of clear markers activated by UV rays that birds can see and steer away from, were donated by Feather Friendly Technologies Inc. and by the zoo’s concessionaire, SSA Group.
To celebrate the new window treatments, the concessionaire at the Glacier Grille is also offering 30% off sales of Dippin’ Dots.
