Donate and your gift is matched and brings you delicious bird-friendly chocolate!

Your donation to SOS Save Our Songbirds empowers, inspires and equips people across Wisconsin to take 3 easy actions at home to save birds. Now through November 30 your gift will be doubled to do even more of this important work, and donations of $35 or more will bring you a delicious bird-friendly chocolate bar as our thanks.

All donations up to $2,500 will be matched thanks to a generous anonymous donor. 100% of donations go to help our volunteers bring the home bird conservation message and supplies to more communities in 2026 through fun and informative booths at events, bird-friendly coffee and chocolate tasting parties, container gardening workshops, and more. What is Bird-Friendly chocolate?

Cocoa used to make chocolate is grown on farms in tropical regions of the world, often where trees have been cleared to grow cocoa plants, removing habitat for birds and other wildlife. Starting in 2023, Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center developed a Bird Friendly cocoa program that certifies farms growing cocoa under and alongside native trees providing food and shelter for birds and other wildlife. All Bird Friendly certified cocoa is 100% organic and meets other strict environmental criteria to result in the most bird-friendly chocolates on the market. Cocoa is the second crop Smithsonian has created a certification program for, after coffee.

Zorzal Cacao , a 1,019-acre bird reserve in the Dominican Republic, is the first farm to receive the cocoa certification. U.S. chocolatiers making chocolates from Zorzal cacao include French Broad Chocolate, Dandelion Chocolate, and Raaka Chocolate.

People donating $35 or more to SOS Save Our Songbirds through the end of November will receive a 70% dark chocolate bar made by French Broad Chocolates. It’s our thank you gift to you, supports this pioneering bird-friendly farm and chocolatier, and helps support winter habitat for the American Redstarts, Cape May Warblers, Ovenbirds, and other favorites we love to see and hear when they return to Wisconsin in spring!
